Course Overview 

The iPET Network Level 4 Dog Training Course is equivalent to the first year of university study. Please review the entry requirements in the additional information section before applying. This qualification combines theory with hands-on learning, including four practical workshop days in Hertfordshire. You’ll gain the skills to train dogs effectively while also developing the ability to coach owners and handlers to confidently work with their dogs in a group class setting.

 Learning Outcomes 

By completing this course, you will:

• Understand the evolution of the dog and how it influences behaviour and motivation in training
• Recognise welfare needs, safe handling, management techniques, and health concerns that may affect training
• Identify and interpret canine emotional states and appreciate the importance of the dog–human bond
• Learn how dogs acquire new skills and methods to overcome training challenges
• Apply training knowledge to deliver engaging, effective training sessions
• Reflect on and evaluate your own performance as a dog training instructor

Unit 413: Canine Ethology (2 credits) 

Unit 414: Canine Health and Handling for Dog Training Instructors (3 credits) 

Unit 415: Principles of Canine Behaviour and Communication (3 credits) 

Unit 416: Canine Socialisation (1 credit) Unit 417: Principles of Dog Training (4 credits)

 Unit 418: Principles of Instruction for Dog Trainers (5 credits) 

Unit 419: Practical Dog Training and Instruction (19 credits) 

Course Structure

 Guided Learning Hours (GLH): 74 hours 

Total Qualification Time (TQT): 370 hours 

Includes 16 hours of face-to-face workshops (mandatory)
