Course Overview

 The iPET Network Level 3 Certificate in Dog Training has been designed to give you the knowledge and practical skills needed to work effectively and compassionately with dogs. This qualification is suitable for anyone looking to begin a career in dog training or to progress onto further study, such as the Level 4 Dog Training and Instruction course. What You’ll Learn By completing this qualification, you will be able to:

• Understand the history and evolution of the dog and how this shapes modern canine behaviour
• Recognise signs of good health and ill-health, and know when training may not be appropriate for welfare reasons
• Safely approach and handle dogs, selecting equipment best suited to each individual
• Identify and interpret canine communication signals and emotional states
• Understand how both puppies and adult dogs can be socialised and habituated to different environments and stimuli
• Apply established dog training theories to real-life handling and training scenarios
• Take a compassionate, evidence-based approach to training and handling dogs

Course Structure 

The qualification consists of three theory units and one practical unit, all of which are mandatory: Unit 374: Introduction to Canine Ethology

 Unit 375: Canine Health and Handling Theory

 Unit 376: Dog Training and Socialisation Theory 

Unit 377: Dog Training and Handling Skills 

Progression Successful candidates will be well-prepared to progress onto the Level 4 Dog Training and Instruction qualification
